There is no limit as to the number of county participants who can compete at the area contest level. There will be a county public speaking/skit help clinic for those teams and individuals interested in competing at the area level. You will present your skit or speech and will receive constructive suggestions for improvement from a qualified evaluator. If you are competing, you will need to pre-register by June 3, 2013, by calling the OSU Extension office at 937-378-6716.

4-H Health/Safety Skit Help Clinic
June 6, 2013, at 5:00 p.m. at Southern Hills Career & Technical Center
Eligibility:
1. Teams are to select a topic of health or safety that affects family living whether it is in the home, on the farm, on the highway, at school, or in public places.
2. Teams shall consist of 4-H members age 9 - 18 as of January 1 of current year. Each team must consist of two to five current 4-H members.
3. Each team must bring to the event a legibly written or typed summary of their skit.
4. The time limit for each team shall be five to eight minutes. Each member of the team must participate with at least one minute of speaking time. Teams going over/under the time limit or not meeting the speaking time requirement will be penalized 10 points. Prompters may not be used.
5. Props may be used for the team talks/skits, but no posters or printed materials will be allowed. Trademarks or brand names should not be used in props, costumes, or mentioned in the skit.
6. Appropriate dress is required for all 4-H skit participants. The use of costumes will be allowed as long as participants are fully clothed and wearing shoes.
Awards:
The top team will represent the county at the District Contest.
4-H Health & Safety Speaking Help Clinic

Eligibility:
1. Select a topic of health or safety that affects family living whether it is in the home, on the farm, on the highway, or in public places.
2. Speeches presented by Junior contestants, (those who have not passed their 14th birthday as of January 1st of the current year) should be 2.5 - 3.5 minutes in length. Speeches over 3.5 minutes will be penalized 10 points.
3. Only Junior contestants may have a prompter at the time they present their talks.
4. Senior contestants (4-H members who are 14 years of age or over on January 1st of the current year), speeches should not exceed 5.5 minutes in length or be under 4 minutes. Those over 5.5 minutes and under 4 minutes will be penalized 10 points.
5. Note cards may be used by Junior and Senior contestants. However, it is suggested that they not be used. Speakers who do not use notes may have an advantage in the judges’ final decision, especially at the District Contest.
6. Appropriate dress is required for all 4-H Public Speaking participants. The use of costumes or props will not be permitted. No posters or printed material will be allowed as well.
Awards:
1. Awards will be presented to the top two places in each division.
2. The top two (2) Senior Division Winners and the top Junior division. Winner will represent the county at the District Contest.
