Started in 2019,  two young individuals are picked and awarded with their first hive. The BCBA club president assist each student with setting up their hives and placing their first package of bees into those very hives, providing a true first step into the world of Beekeeping.  A tradition that has been traced back to the time of Egyptians.

Guidelines for a youth to have a chance at being selected to receive a hive to start beekeeping are:

  • The student must be 12 to 18 years of age for the applying year.
  • Must be a resident of Brown County or an adjoining county.
  • The applicant must currently be enrolled in public, private, or home school and be in grades 7 through 12.
  • Applications for those under the age of 18 must be signed by a parent or guardian.
