The Southern Ohio Farm Show is a new program
offered weekly by the OSU Extension offices from
Brown, Clermont, and Highland Counties.

Each episode will feature an educational topic.

For the 36th episode of the Southern Ohio Farm Show: -Gigi Neal teaches about how to recycle your live Christmas trees; -Kathy Tutt and Dr. Tara O'Brien discuss staying active in the winter months; -James Morris provides an overview of eFields research conducted during the 2020 growing season in Brown County; and -we cap off 2020 with a display of New Year's Fireworks. Have a safe and healthy New Year's celebration. We are looking forward to 2021!
December 23, 2020 - Happy Holidays from the Southern Ohio Farm Show! In this episode we make 3-D snowflakes with Christy Clary and tour light displays in the area. We also have two very special guests who came to southern Ohio all the way from the North Pole, Santa and Mrs. Claus.
December 15 - In this episode of the Southern Ohio Farm Show: -Pam Bennett provides tips on how to care for poinsettias; -James Morris discusses cover crops; -we visit with the Fairfield FFA Chapter about their soybean field; and -Ken Ford and his son, Luke, demonstrate how to make peanut butter cups for the holidays.
December 9 - This week on the Southern Ohio Farm Show, we visit a Christmas tree farm, learn about winterizing sprayers with Richard Purdin, learn more about tax exempt rules with Chris Bruynis, and bake cutout cookies with Kathy Bruynis and her grandchildren
December 2 -This week on the Southern Ohio Farm Show we have a conversation with Sam Custer, Interim Assistant Director Agriculture and Natural Resources for OSU Extension. Richard Purdin teaches about wet wrapped forages, Dr. Tim McDermott gives guidelines for what not to feed your pet from the holiday table, and Chris Bruynis discusses tax preparation. In the final segment of the program, Cindy Kratzer provides the recipe for peanut bars - a Brown County favorite dessert!
November 25 - Happy Thanksgiving! This week we: -share a recipe for a pumpkin pie; -Richard Purdin teaches about winter livestock feeding by using a heavy use pad: -the Roehms and Yochums, Highland County 4-H families, share videos from the National Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky; -Mike Estadt shares tips for holiday lighting safety and efficiency.
November 18 - Have you been delegated the task of preparing this year's Thanksgiving turkey? If so, join Lisa Barlage and Tammy Jones for turkey cooking 101. Gig Neal will show us various safety practices that farmers use during fall harvest, and Amanda Douridas and Jason Hartsuch will inform us about cover crop test plots. November 10 - In this episode of the Southern Ohio Farm Show, there is a weather forecast, recipe for Green Bean Casserole, and information about beekeeping. 
November 4 - For the month of November, the Southern Ohio Farm Show will feature a new recipe or cooking tips to help you get ready for your Thanksgiving meal. The show will feature the first recipe in the series in today's episode. Other segments include information on drought stressed forages with James Morris, buffer strips, and bigtooth aspen identification with Dave Apsley.
October 28 - Happy Halloween! In this episode of the Southern Ohio Farm Show we feature festive pumpkins, local places to see Halloween decorations even if you are social distancing, the bats of Ohio, a weather update with Aaron Wilson, cover crops with Richard Purdin, and Pawpaw trees with Dave Apsley. We will have another new episode next week! Have a safe weekend and watch for trick-or-treaters while driving.
October 21 - This week on the Southern Ohio Farm Show we take a close look at the process of harvesting corn in Ohio, learn about cover crops with Richard Purdin, and learn about the Big Leaf Magnolia with Dave Apsley
October 14 - This week on the Southern Ohio Farm Show we learn more about trees, forages, women in agriculture, and safley hauling livestock.
October 7 - This week on the Southern Ohio Farm Show we have a weather update from Aaron Wilson, a bailing demonstration from the Farm Science Review with Christine Gelley and Brent Raines, and a tour of a hemp farm with James Morris.
September 30 - This week on the Southern Ohio Farm Show we visit with Dr. Steve Boyles to learn about livestock hauling safety, learn about soil health with Richard Purdin, and visit the Brown County Fair with Christy Clary and James Morris.
September 22 - This week the Southern Ohio Farm Show is all about the Farm Science Review! Learn about the field demos, virtual reality experiences, grain bin safety, a weather update, an interview with Tyne Morgan, spray drones, and safety tips for hauling cattle.
September 16 - More scenes from the 2020 Highland County Fair, including agriculture trivia, the beef show, and the outstanding market exhibitor awards.

August 12 - This week on the Southern Ohio Farm Show we learn about multiflora rose, marketing farm products to restaurants, identifying the fringe tree, and additional video production tips to help your personal, small business, or educational videos be more engaging.
August 5 - In this episode of the Southern Ohio Farm Show, Dr. Aaron Wilson provides an update on the weather, Dave Apsley shows us how to identify poison ivy, and we have the award presentation from the Clermont County Junior Fair.
July 29 - In this episode of the Southern Ohio Farm Show we discuss Ohio trees, invasive species, seeds to be on the look-out for in the mail, highlights from the Clermont County 4-H project judging, and a tutorial on how to edit videos.
July 22 - Aviation in agriculture is the theme for this week's Southern Ohio Farm Show. We will discuss the uses of aviation in the agricultural industry, considerations for fungicide application, and the role Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs, also known as drones) are playing in the industry.
July 15 - Join James Morris for wheat scouting, Kyah and Jayah Chaney with dog showmanship, Ryan Mau with his horse, Dave Apsley for another tree identification, and Ken Ford with an update on the upcoming Southern Ohio Corn Growers field day.
July 8 - Join Highland County 4-H members Brooklyn Baldwin, Aubrey Hamilton, Sydney Hamilton, Sam Hamilton, Keaton Smith, Aston Bain, and Sophie Young as they discuss their 4-H livestock projects. Additionally, there is a weather outlook from Aaron Wilson, video production tips with Brooke Beam, and how to identify a Buckeye tree with Dave Apsley.
July 1 - Do you have a 4-H member who is looking for guidance on how to show their chicken? Join Sara Newsome, Fab Five 4-H Club Member, for a demonstration on how to show a chicken at the fair in this week's episode of the Southern Ohio Farm Show! In addition to chicken showmanship, we discuss several food science topics to help you have safe pork products from the grill, patriotic strawberries, and a recipe for homemade ice cream. Ending the show, there is a socially distanced fireworks display.
June 24 - This week on the Southern Ohio Farm Show we start a new reoccurring segment on career exploration with Mark Lafferty, a Los Angeles-based television producer, an updated weather report, learn about ticks, tree identification, and an activity for 4-H camp-at-home.

May 27 - In this episode of the Southern Ohio Farm Show there is a weather report, update on the CFAP program, information about agricultural tourism and Ireland, an update on a STEM workshop, and a reminder to be cognizant of farmers on the roadways this planting season.
May 20 - In this week's episode of the Southern Ohio Farm Show, there is a weather forecast by Dr. Aaron Wilson, a conversation about the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE), a gardening activity for youth, tips for growing strawberries, and a reason to keep an eye in the sky on clear nights.
